CAMP LUCY, DRIPPING SPRINGS, AND THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY

“Who needs Europe? The Texas Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. Moreover, the region is speckled with 22 wineries that buzz with food and music festivals year round.” -- The New York Times

Known as the “Gateway to the Hill Country”, Dripping Springs, home to Camp Lucy, is perfectly situated in one of the nation’s most popular destination spots. While conveniently located just minutes from Austin, Dripping Springs is a world away from the city grind and just a stone’s skip from award-winning wineries, microbreweries, world-class antiquing, olive orchards, outdoor adventures, and more.

The following provides just a taste of what lies in store for you, your friends and family to experience and explore near Camp Lucy and Dripping Springs.

Breweries and Distilleries – The Austin area has become a brewing mecca. Two heralded new breweries, Jester King Brewery and Thirsty Planet, are located near Dripping Springs. Both have recently opened tasting rooms, along with the granddaddy of them all, Real Ale, just a short, scenic drive away. A little west of Dripping in the tiny town of Hye is Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas. Tours by appointment.

Shopping – Just down the road is the charming village of Wimberley. Situated around the town square and just beyond are a variety of unique and locally owned shops filled with special antiques, art, furnishings, and more.

Nature – Dripping Springs is nestled next to one of the state’s most visited parks, Pedernales Falls State Park, which holds a dramatic waterfall as its centerpiece. Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve, also nearby, likewise boasts a breathtaking 50 foot rock overhang and waterfall.

Cycling - The famous, scenic Dripping Springs country roads play host each year to cyclists from around the country and beyond in Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Challenge. The cycling enthusiasts in your party can ride the route of a Tour de France champion. In 2010, Camp Lucy began sponsoring local charity rides. Olive Orchards – With weather and landscape evocative of Provence and Tuscany, it is no surprise olive orchards have begun to flourish in this neck of the woods. Near Camp Lucy, Bella Vista Ranch offers orchard tours and olive oil tastings. Nearby Texas Hill Country Olive Company will also be opening soon to the public.
