Andrea Sloan Life Celebration

Yesterday we were humbled and honored to be the site for the life celebration of Andrea Sloan. Andrea was already a hero as the head of Texas Advocacy Project, a non-profit group that provides free legal work and advocacy for victims of domestic violence, but many of you may have heard her story more recently when, seven years into a hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer, she and her doctors sought an experimental drug which they believed was her last hope. Andrea formed Andi's Army, a group on a mission to allow herself and others in similar situations access to trial cancer drugs based on “compassionate use.” Despite a campaign that spread nationwide (and beyond) Andrea did not receive the drug and she passed away on January 1st of this year. Yesterday, those she helped and inspired through her work to protect victims of abuse and those who were part of her Andi’s Army gathered at Camp Lucy. Andrea was an advocate for victims of domestic violence, those in need of medical help, an accomplished horsewoman, and a profound inspiration. Thank you to her equally inspiring friends and family for letting us be part of celebrating and honoring this Texas hero. You can learn more about Andi's Army at AndisArmy.org.
